Not About Love

Tuesday, May 26, 2009 | |

So Fiona Apple has always been at the top of my list as far as songwriters go, and I have fond memories of my siblings and I jamming out to every one of her albums. If I had stayed on the "I want to make music!" career path, I totally would have wanted to be a crazy prog-rock version of her (dodged a big, reverb-soaked bullet there dudes in my life!). The video for "Not About Love" features the hilarious Zach Galifinakis. Enjoy!

Dazed & Confused + "Keep Candles Handy"

So apparently these employ some rudimentary Photoshop technique, but they are stunning. I particularly love the May cover of Dazed & Confused, because really, you can't go wrong with Gaspard Ulliel. You won't see anything this cool on American Men's Vogue.

From England's great I-D Magazine comes this editorial featuring model Alana Zimmer. It is photographed by Vanina Sorrenti, sister of established fashion photographer Mario Sorrenti.

Matei Apostolescu

While looking for a sweet Twitter background I stumbled upon the work of Matei Apostolescu, a freelance illustrator from Bucharest, Romania. It makes me smile. Check out more at Apostolescu's site, including some rockin' downloads.

Sure There's Genital Mutilation, But it Looks Beautiful!

Here's the trailer for Lars Von Trier's latest, Antichrist. The gorgeous Charlotte Gainsbourg just took home the prize for best actress at Cannes, which I can only assume is deserved given the squirm inducing things she has to do to Willem Dafoe and herself.

Animal Collective, May 14 at the House of Blues, Boston

Courtesy of htmanlev on YouTube, here's "My Girls" from Thursday's show. Love how the audience is psyched about helping out with the random shout part at the end of the chorus. Highlights were this, "Fireworks", "Brother Sport" and "Summertime Clothes". The show definitely surpassed my expectations, and I'll be seeing them again ASAP.

And here's a new track they opened with, working title "What Would I Want Sky". See more at tppgreg's YouTube page.
